Nice story, GH! That was a great — if grim — Sunday morning read.

I’m curious about his family — did you find out anything more about the wife and children who left for England?

There are just wisps of information about his family life – if the Tely hadn’t covered his death, we would know much less. Working from the property tax records, the split seems to have happened in about 1897, and been followed by his move to the Fern Ave. house, which is quite a lot smaller. School records would tell you more.
