My impression from the tour we did later in the evening was something to the effect of “Toto, we’re not in Toronto any more.” It’s a really fascinating combination of spaces, more a piece of abstract art big enough to put humans (etc.) inside than what we would traditionally think of as a building. I don’t know how well this is ultimately going to work with all the exhibits etc., but for the moment I’m just deeply impressed by the audaciousness of the project and the fact that he seems to have pulled it off.

Great photo!
I liked the inside of the Crystal, which I saw in daylight, much more than the outside. I’m not sure how the ROM’s collection will work in the space, though — although the space seemed big with nothing in it, it’s not really, now I think about it. How many dinosaurs can fit in a Crystal?
I was saddened to see the beautiful rotunda that was just past the old entrance off Queen’s Park is now a brown bag lunch area. Does anyone know if there’s a plan to make it into a proper cafe or something? I looked all through the plan and there was nothing listed.
The neglect of the rotunda is tragic. It’s kind of a lame little cafe, but they won’t let you sit at the tables after it closes, even. A total waste and a great loss.
I still think moving the main entrance to Bloor (away from the subway, nowhere near parking, even) is stupid.
Neat.
