I've worked with dozens of online alubums as a amature photog myself. My favorite is probably Shutterfly. Not only is it free and easy but it handles creation of thumbnails, slideshows, resizing photos to all the same size (and the option to click to see full size) as well as allowing people you want to allow to order prints for home delivery or pickup at Target. I believe you can also turn this feature off.

Shutterfly has no space or image quantity limits (even on the free account) and they offer free personal album site creation which allows you to pick a name like www.myphotos.shutterfly.com. Those albums are really cool if you have people who also take pictures of things that you want to see so that everyone is able to upload photos to that album and you all get to share/comment/order pics from one central location instead of everyone having to use their own site. It's worked really really well for my sister's new baby since the grandparents all live in different cities as well as most of the other family members. That way we all get to stay in touch and see the photos others took while getting to visit.

Maybe not the best for professional photo management but I'm quite impressed with what they give you for free.

Just my 5 cents on the subject.

This online tool has been reviewed quite well:

<a href="http://www.picnik.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.picnik.com/</a>

It doesn't look like it does albums, though; I think it assumes your pictures are already online somewhere.

There's Flickr, too, which works very well (if you don't mind having a Yahoo account).

ACDSee is decent and not overly expensive, if you're willing to kick in a bit of $$.

iPhoto is excellent, but I don't think they make a Windows version.
