The mean streets of Halton region

Police shoot man in Oakville park at two-thirty in the morning, Oakviller expresses disbelief that real life takes place in her Legoland-like hometown:

The woman, who asked not to be named, said she usually takes her 2-and 3-year-old boys for walks in that forest.

She said her family moved to the neighbourhood because it was “a safe environment.”

“It’s like Pleasantville. There’s been a shooting in Pleasantville.”

Unless she takes her toddlers for walks in the park after midnight, it seems like she has little to worry about. But this does remind me of an earlier Oakville saga, one in which a toddler disappeared with the minivan that was parked in her parents’ driveway. Those parents had also moved from the crime-ridden Beaches neighbourhood of Toronto to Oakville for safety concerns. Could two isolated incidents many months apart be enough to lead a stampede of safety-first parents from scary Oakville to the haven of Halton Hills? Only time will tell.
